Kiev not prepared?

19.12.2009

The stadium in Kiev is falling apart and the government is trying to cover up the shortcomings. In Poland the situation is not perfect as well. We do not have much time to meet the expectations of UEFA.

Unexpected problems with the Ukrainian Olympic Stadium appeared. The stadium in Donieck was opened in September. The stadium of Ukrainian football club Metalist was modernized. Unfortunately, a week after UEFA announced that preparations to European Championships are realized on time, it was revealed that a number of failures were found at the National Stadium in Kiev.

Many defects impending the construction were found, and the company which won the tender for the construction of the roof does not know how to build it. Why? There is no complete project and detailed documentation.

The inquiry commission has informed that there are months of delay in some of the activities. Moreover, a lower quality concrete was used to build the Olympic Stadium, anti-corrosion protection was badly prepared and there is a serious danger of collapse.

Warsaw, Wrocław and Poznań have everything under control. At the National Stadium 2/3 of the ferroconcrete construction is ready. It is visible over the crest of the former Stadium of the Decade (Stadion Dziesięciolecia). And despite the low temperatures the works are continued.

In Gdańsk the biggest problems are connected with preparation of the airport. But all the deadlines concerning the Arena object are kept so far. At the moment the Stadium has 28 m in the highest point. At the end it will be 45 m high. In January mounting of the steel construction of the roof will begin, in March the ferroconcrete works should be finished. In Poznań the grass has already been laid down. The stadium of Lech Poznań is supposed to be ready in June 2010.
