The logo of Euro 2012 has been presented in Kiev. The symbol of European Championships is a flower with Polish and Ukrainian flags on the leaves. The promotional slogan of the tournament is: “Together we create the history.”
Polish version of the slogan has a slightly different meaning. It was changed to: “Together we create the future.” Why was the Polish version changed? As the Polish sport minister Adam Giersz has explained: - In Poland history is associated mainly with the past. We wanted something more creative. That is why we suggested to change the slogan.
The logo was designed by a Portuguese artist Helder Pombinho, who used the folklore and plant motives to create a ball which will bear the fruit of development of both countries and football itself. The steam is a symbol of the European Football Federation, and the two flowers in national colours: red-and-white, and yellow-and-blue symbolize developing Poland and Ukraine. -It is not easy in the time of world economic crisis – said Michel Platini during the presentation of the logo at Michaiłowski Square in Kiev. - The conditions are often difficult, but the cities and governments have made an enormous effort. It is important not only for the 2012 tournament, but also for the development of both countries.
In Poland the logo was presented on the Marszałkowska Street elevation of the Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki).
Project "Euro 2012" is addressed to participants, visitors and football fans coming to the European Football Championship, which will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine in the summer 2012.
Apart from logistical support (accommodation, travel, stay) the participants will need practical language guide and cultural information package, helping them to participate in Euro 2012 and move in hosting countries without communicative barriers.
The aim of the project will be to develop comprehensive didactic materials related to Polish and Ukrainian languages and culture: on-line language courses and practical information guide tending to present their specific features.
